Be Careful
1. April 2010 by tpritch.
If you can avoid riding SR62 between North entrance to Clifty Falls and SR256. The road is very narrow. Impossible to ride. Be careful if you do. Today I rode my mountain bike to work. I ride in the area that has been ground up with that big dinosaur looking unit. Most of the ground is hard with the exception of the driveways. They are using the ground up asphalt as fill to let cars drive across.

Twitter
31. March 2010 by tpritch.
Just announced at our quarterly bike club meeting last evening was that our club has become “Twitterfied” As we all know this is a social communicating tool that many of you may be aware of. Our president and webmaster Rick Lostutter announced that this tool could be used for communicating with each other since we have seemed to have lost the email method we used a couple years ago. I believe this could be something that spontaneous rides could be setup easily. Each member could monitor with their phone that has internet capability or their desktop computer at home or work. If anybody is confused about how this will work, please let me know. Maybe later our webmaster can put some directions on site that may help you understand. This tool cannot be used for ride reports but can be for short and sweet comments to remind you about rides, upcoming events, etc. Thanks to Rick for making our site one of the best.

6. March 2010 by tpritch.
Friday March 5th was my first ride of the year. My ride was to my work at Clifty Engineering. Total distance was 13.06 miles. A bit cool, but it was great to see the sun and feel the warm sun rays. Hoping to ride my job number 2 at Lowes today. Also wanting to schedule my riding this year with the club between my busy work schedule.

Special Thanks to All…
4. August 2009 by tpritch.
To all Members,
I wanted to let all those know who participated in my “Ride to Conquer Cancer” fund raising ride on Saturday August 1st., THANK YOU!!! for your support and your generous contributions. After totaled up.. the amount came to $390.00. This amount gets me up to my goal. Great to have friends and supporters like you.
I also want to send a special thank you to Rick Lostutter, Carl Tyree, Cindy Sevier, Byron Nagle for your planning, great food and support. Cindy please thank your dad for the great barbeque.
Even thou the fund raising was a great success, the event was still dampened over the unforeseen accident of Dan Holzinger’s and Joe Germano’s friend Mark from Indy. As you know Dan and Mark had a run in with a dog. Dan had broken his collar bone and Mark had few road rashes. This is the best way to illustrate how important it is to wear helmets. My prayers go to Dan and his family for a quick recovery. I’m sure we will see Dan back on the road again in the near future.
Best Regards

Roastin’ & Ridin’ on a Tuesday Night
23. June 2009 by admin.
It was warm tonight, but we still had a good turnout. We started out with myself (Rick Lostutter), Carl Tyree, Cindy Sevier and Chuck Spencer. We had no sooner reached Lanier Drive whe we were joined by Greg Lebre, who is training for his first RAIN Ride in three weeks. Joe Germano was waiting for us at the North Entrance to Clifty Park as he had riden from his home in Paynesville.Tonight was the usual route except when we arrived at Deputy Pike, we continued north on Rector Road to 500N. We eventually meandered back to 400N and HWY 7 where we picked up the regular route back to the Boys & Girls Club.We discussed the Ride to Support Tom Pritchard that we are planning for Aug. 1. We rode to escape the heat and humidity (the breeze while riding was a welcome relief to the thick heat that met us while we stopped and rested. All in all, it was a good Tuesday Night on the bike. Chuck Spencer joined me on a sprint down New Hill Road (HWY 421) back into downtown Madison. Hope to see more of out in the coming weeks!

Ride with strangers
19. June 2009 by tpritch.
According to those riding with me on the Thursday night ride I have been considered ride leader for the evening and also in charge of the ride report. The weather looked like rain most of the evening. With severe storms earlier in the day we lucked out with partly cloudy then rays of sunshine on and off. Tonight riders were…Cindy Sevier, Carl Tyree, Dan Baughman, Joe Germono, myself and two others…read on..
A later start then normal. Dan Baughman was running about 20 minutes late. Joe Germono was riding across the hilltop to meet the rest of us at Green Road entrance to Clifty Falls. When we met up with Joe he had some other biking friends with him. That was Tom and Walter from Cincinnati. They were passing through Madison on there way to Spring Mill Park. Those two guys rode with us through the park. Their interest was stopping at the big Clifty Falls up on the north end then wonder back through the park to their motel room. We escorted Tom and Walter over to the falls. After a few snap shots the club riders were on our way. Out the park entrance we headed north. Our ride followed the normal Thursday night ride. A few dogs followed us along the way, but no issues to speak of. Cindy and Joe split off to head back towards Hanover and beyond. Joe and Cindy was talking about some kind of special bra that Cindy had, but I don’t think she really did. I won’t go there. Anyway the rest of us headed back towards our homes.

RNR (Thurs. Night Ride) Report
15. May 2009 by admin.
This was another Show-N-Go Ride, attended by Rick Lostutter, Cindy Sevier, Carl Tyree, Bud Reed, Joe Germano and Chuck Spencer. Cindy ran into Joe (not literally) on the way to the ride start from Hanover. Joe had ridden up from Paynesville (15 miles) and was rarin’ to go. We started out through the Park (Clifty) entering the Green Road secret entrance. We stopped at the North Gate to re-group and so that Cindy could purchase a park pass. We then headed west on Clifty Drive/62 to Chicken Run, right to Thompson Road, right to Deputy Pike, left to 400N and back into North Madison via the HWY 7/Dawson Smith/Shun Pike corridor. Cindy headed south with Joe so he could get back to Paynesville before dark and Rick, Chuck and Carl headed back to Lide White. Bud had split from the group back on Chicken Run to avoid the extra mileage. After the official Club ride, Rick and Chuck headed into Downtown Madison and out east of town to add Eagle Hollow and the Ryker’s Ridge area to their ride. Total Distance: Club Ride - 20 miles. Great weather was had by all

Thursday Night Ride
8. May 2009 by tpritch.
By having a break in the weather allowed the Thursday night ride to take off without a hitch. Those attending was Cindy Sevier, Carl Tyree, Dan & Brenda Baughman, myself and a special guest Midori Higashino. Midori is from Kyoto, Japan. She was an exchange student at Butler the past school year spending the first semester at Butler in Indy and the second semester in Washington DC. She goes back to Japan on Monday. She was Dan’s co-rider on his tandem.
The route was basically a reverse of the Tuesday night ride we did earlier this week. No head winds to speak of. It was great. Brenda Baughman was riding her new Cannondale hybrid bike she purchased at Clarksville Schwinn. It was a pretty white color. Brenda said she had about 40 miles or so on it. She was still learning how to use all the 24 gear combinations she had. We had a few hills where she could test it out. She did very well getting up a hill on Deputy Pike. The only thing I told her she needed was some kind of mirror. Some of the busy roads it is a must to have. The final leg of the ride took us down Michigan Road. As we headed south I peeled off, then Carl and Cindy headed back to the club and The rest went to Dan and Brenda’s. Glad to see a nice group together. Hope to see others over the next few weeks.Best to All

Tues. Nite Ride - Cinco de Mayo (5/5)
5. May 2009 by admin.
We had a good turnout tonight, including Cindy Sevier, Carl Tyree, Dan Baughman, David Stucker, Tom Pritchard and myself, Rick Lostutter. The pace was good at an average of around 15.5 mph for about 20 miles. We opted to finish the new route (Chicken Run Road) by riding the full Clifty Falls loop. I exited the ride at the South entrance of the park to join my family at the Ohio Theater for the TERRIFIC TUESDAYS movie ($2/ticket). It was a little windy, but what ride hasn’t been windy this season. All in all, a good night on the bike.

April 25 Road Ride
2. May 2009 by bnagel.
Dan Holzinger joined me at 8 AM for a planned 50-60 miler. The past few days had been very windy and the forecast for this day was for increasing wind. I choose a route west and south so we would have the south to southwest wind bring us back in. Dan is planning on doing the RAIN ride this July and is starting to prepare for it. This was the longest ride of the year for both of us. While both of us gained some poundage over the long winter, Dan had exceeded my gain by about 20 to 25 pounds. I took the Sunday morning route out to Lexington. Dan felt good during the first few miles, but as we climbed the larger rollers on Thompson road, he started struggling. He had been out riding some this spring, but he thought his breakfast choice was poor and the extra weight he had accumulated were taking a toll. After the 17 miles out to Lexington, he thought he might want to shorten the day’s route. We enjoyed seeing Leroy as he always perks up when we cyclists visit his establishment. Leroy has always more than made us feel welcome through the years. One reason I think he stays very busy with his store is his always friendly greeting when anyone comes in. After refreshing ourselves, I told Dan we would shorten the route as my plans were to drop into Bethlehem before heading back north. We rode one of my favorite Clark County roads - Kettle Bottoms into New Washington, took a break and headed east to catch Paynesville road back in. We took a break at some friends house who live just south of Saluda. They have a boxer dog who was eager to greet us (not an eater). With the ever increasing tail wind, we road back in through Hanover and back home. I recorded 51 miles with Dan getting 53 from having rode from his house. I really like this route and will do it again. We ended up with a respectable early season 15.9 mph average.Byron
